I believe that ultimately, you need to figure out what your purpose is, master your purpose, market your purpose, solve a problem with your purpose, and get paid to solve that problem.
I believe that from the time youâre born, until the age you are right now, God and life have been trying to point you in the direction of your divine assignment. And when you know what that assignment is, you can walk it out and walk it out powerfully!
Here are 7 questions that I believe will help you define your purpose:
1. WHEN YOU WERE A CHILD WHAT DID YOU DREAM OF BECOMING AND WHY?
I love this question because when we were kids, we believed in everything. The possibilities were endless. As we get older, we get conditioned; we get miseducated of other peopleâs programming. And lifeâs disappointments, challenges, and setbacks come to rob you of that childlike faith and belief of the ultimate dream.
When I was a young boy, I wanted to be a member of Boyz II Men. This is a true story. First, it was MC Hammer, then it was Boyz II Men, and then I wanted to be like Tony Robbins. And the reason was because I loved MC Hammerâs dancing, but it wasnât so much that I wanted to be Hammer. I just wanted to make an impact on people. It was the wow factor! It was his energy that I was drawn to! I realized I did not want to be a dancer my whole life. I wanted to be that person that brought infectious energy to people. I do that now as a full-time speaker.
You know what? The reason I wanted to be a member of Boyz II Men when I was a kid was because of the difference that they made. As soon as those guys got up on stage, they represented class. They were distinguished. They didnât have pants hanging off their butts. They were articulate. And when they operated in their gifts, the harmony was excellent. I admired their excellence. I admired how they performed. I admired their class. They loved their moms and they talked about how they loved their moms. Thatâs what I admired about those guys.
And then I fell in love with the oratory and oratorical excellence of the giants that were out there, that were speaking and communicating and transforming lives. And I said, âThatâs what I wanted to do with my gifts and talents!â
What about you? Why did you want to be what you wanted to be?
2. WHAT DO YOUR CLOSE FAMILY AND FRIENDS SAY YOUâVE ALWAYS BEEN GOOD AT?
Itâs hard to see the picture when youâre the frame. Often times, we are the embodiment of our gifts and talents; itâs hard to see what we really have. It takes someone on the outside, looking back at you, to tell you how powerful and profound you really are. What do they tell you that youâre good and amazing at? Because what theyâre constantly telling you, is a gift and talent that you really possess and that you need to explore.
3. WHY DOES YOUR PHONE RING?
One of the keys to living the life of your dreams, is figuring out why your phone rings and charging people for it. People call you for a reason. Learn why your phone rings and charge for it; you donât have to worry about your bank account.
I would get calls to uplift and inspire people all around the world, but this was happening back when I was in grade school. People would call me because they wanted to feel better about themselves. And it wasnât until I took a Spiritual Gifts Inventory that I realized, that skill or talent was actually a gift called the GIFT OF EXHORTATION. I had this spiritual gift to exhort and make people feel good about themselves.
I have a great resource that you can use to help find your gift even if you think you already know what your gift is, you might be surprised. Here is the link in case you have not taken your gifts assessment yet.http://anointed4business.com/spiritual-gifts-test/
4. IF EVERY OCCUPATION IN THE WORLD PAID $15 PER HOUR, WHAT WOULD YOU DO TO BE FULFILLED EVERY DAY?
If we could all make the same money and pick an occupation based on your gifts, talents, abilities and skills, and that which would give you joy every single day, what would you pick? Thatâs what youâre really meant to be doing!
5. WHAT COULD YOU DO ALL DAY LONG AND NEVER WORRY ABOUT GETTING PAID FOR, BECAUSE YOU LOVE DOING IT THAT MUCH?
The same answers should begin to start coming out for you, and if that starts happening, then congratulations!
6. WHEN YOU LOOK AT MOVIES, WHAT MOVIES ARE YOU DRAWN TO THE MOST?
Thatâs a profound question. I believe that like attracts like. I believe that we watch movies for a reason.
When I was growing up, some of my favorite movies were The Karate Kid and Rocky. I loved movies like that. I loved The Karate Kid because there was a mentor and a protégé. There was learning, going through challenges and adversities. I loved Rocky because he had a dream of becoming somebody great and awesome! Although he did not have the tools and equipment, every single boxer that he went up against, he beat them. Not because he was faster or stronger, but because he had more will, not necessarily more skill. He had more intrinsic than he had extrinsic, but that is where the real wealth is.
âGreater is he that is within us than he thatâs in the world!â Itâs absolutely powerful and profound!
I think about my reality television show, âThe Keynoteâ. What drew me to create this inspirational business reality television show is that I like business shows, but I did not like the negative reality television out there. So I decided to bend the rules and create a positive reality show with good values and morals, where people donât have to be negative and get kicked off every episode.

What Iâve realized is that the movies that Iâve always been drawn to were always movies with a teacher teaching and imparting knowledge and wisdom. What do I do for a living? Iâm a master teacher and I impart wisdom and knowledge. I train, coach and develop people around the world.
Iâm trying to make you understand that the things youâre attracted to, youâre attracted to them for a reason. God has been giving you sign posts throughout your entire life as to what youâre ultimately supposed to be doing for your life. You just have to pull up the antenna so that you can receive the frequency that God is trying to give you.
7. Is it possible that you need to raise your antenna so that you can actually catch the frequency thatâs coming across the air waves, which God already has there?
All you have to do is raise your antenna! Raise your awareness on whatâs possible. Raise your awareness to what you can have. Raise your awareness to what you can achieve. Raise your awareness to what God has already put in your heart because I believe many of the prayers you pray, He has already answered.
Thereâs an incredible man that I admire and highly respect. His name is Dr. Mike Murdock. Iâve read so many of his books. One of his best books is called âThe Law of Recognition: How everything you want in your life is already in your life, itâs just a problem of recognitionâ. He talks about the same notion, that you will have to be aware of whatâs there or youâll miss the blessings and opportunities that are all around you.
I want you to understand that you were born with an assignment, with a purpose. You were put here to do something special with your life. God put you here to do something amazing. And God didnât just give the amazing stuff to a few people. He didnât just give the amazing stuff to celebrities or to the people you see on television, because if you read the right books youâll learn that the people you see on television only represent 3-5% of the successful people in the world. Who makes up the other 95%? People you never see on television, people who dress every day just in regular clothes, and just go to work every day, and just do what they need to do.
You were designed to do something incredible with your life. And I believe that you were put here to do a whole lot more than go to a job every single day and hate what you do. You spend 1/3 of every single day working⦠I need you to do what you love!
You spend 2,080 hours every year working. Multiply that by 40 years, thatâs over 83,000 hours. Thatâs too much time doing something that you hate. Thatâs too much time to spend hating what you do!
I believe that God designed you to do what youâre meant to do with your life. The scripture reminds us that he put everything in us that pertains to life and Godliness. In Genesis he says, âHe put the seed of everything within usâ. Every one of us has the ability to reproduce, and be awesome, and be great and explosive, and in order to do that, you have to figure out what He called you to do. In order to do that, you need to do what The Word talks about in Proverbs:
âThe purposes of a manâs heart are deep like waters, but itâs the manâs understanding that withdraw those things outâ
